AHA|SA Staff

The AHA|SA staff consists of a number of highly credentialed professionals who are experts in their chosen fields. This ensures the AHA|SA is well equipped to give members the highest possible level of service.

Ian Horne, AHA|SA General Manager

Ian Horne is one of South Australia’s most talented and experienced industry advocates. Since matriculating at Henley High School, Ian has acquired a wealth of other academic and business credentials.

Ian has a Graduate Certificate in Management (GradCertMgt) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Adelaide.

Ian first joined the AHA (SA) in late 1983 as the Manager of Hospitality Group Training, a group training scheme that was operated in partnership with the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union. In 1985, he was promoted to the role of Industrial Relations Manager and then in 1986, he took over as General Manager of the AHA (SA), a position he held for the next 12 years. During this time, Ian oversaw the introduction of gaming machines to local hotels, a move that has reinvigorated the industry to the point where SA now boasts some of the best hotels in Australia.

In 1998, Ian became the Executive Director of the Motor Trade Association in SA. He returned to the AHA (SA) as General Manager in September of 2005.

Along with his managerial roles at the MTA and the AHA, Ian has been a member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Advisory Committee, a board member of Crimestoppers, and the Vice Chair, Treasurer and board member of the Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority. In 2006, Ian was appointed to the board of the South Australian Tourism Commission.

Wendy Bevan, Government Relations & Policy Manager


Wendy can assist in all aspects of Government Relations and Policy for the Association, including: political lobbying, public relations, media management, research and policy development, representation and member and community liaison.

Human Resources & Industrial Relations


Human Resources & Industrial Relations Manager – Trevor Evans

The AHA|SA HR/IR team are able to assist members with all queries relating to human resources and industrial relations including: Award/Industrial Instrument interpretation, all employment documentation including Contracts of Employment, work health and safety, workers compensation, training, equal oportunity employment and all other staffing or employment related queries.

Brian Smith, Membership & Business Services Manager


Brian is responsible for membership retention and recruitment for the Association. He is also responsible for organising all regional meetings, as well as assisting members with their insurance, electricity and telecommunication requirements. Brian can also assist members with compliance with smoking regulations.

Lucy Randall - Events & Sponsorship


Lucy manages the AHA|SA Major Event calender and networking events including the Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence, Trade Show, Conferencing and the Women in Hotels network. She also acquires and manages the relationships with the many Corporate Sponsors that invest into the association. Lucy also manages the various social media platforms of the AHA|SA and coordinates Hotel Care Community Projects.

Chris Thomson, Licensing & Gaming Manager


Chris is able to assist members with all aspects of licensing advice and advocacy, including gaming advice and advocacy, and assistance with management plans.

Katherine Taylor, Communications & TAA(SA) Manager

Katherine oversees Tourism Accommodation Australia (SA), the Accommodation Division of the Association which comprises of Adelaide’s biggest Accommodation hotels. She is also responsible for the communications of the Association, including the website and the industry magazine, Hotel SA.

The Finance and Administration team are responsible for all of the Associations finance and administration requirements. They also oversee the Licensee’s Liquor Guide, which is available for members.

Elizabeth (Liz) Turley, Training Coordinator


Liz is responsible for coordinating the training courses for the Association including Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Training, Basic Gaming Training and Advanced Gaming Training.
