Our Purpose

To provide the hotel industry with the capacity to respond to community concerns related to the harm associated with gambling by contributing to early intervention and support for problem gamblers and their families

Our Goal

A compliant and proactive hotel industry that works with regulators, gambling help services, and players to limit the harm caused by gambling

What We Do

Gaming Care was established in 2005 by the Australian Hotels Association South Australian Branch as a responsible gambling early intervention agency, and has been recognised by the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner under the Gaming Machines Act 1992.  The goal of Gaming Care is to minimise the harm caused by problem gambling behaviour in all South Australian Hotels with gaming machines by working collaboratively with venue staff, Gambling Help Services, and other Government and Non-Government Community Service organisations.  Hotels which enter an agreement with Gaming Care are exempted from some provisions of the Gambling Code of Practice and are required to give Gaming Care free and unrestricted access to their staff.

In addition to assisting licensees and hotel staff with their compliance obligations, Gaming Care encourage and support venue staff through education and training regarding recognising problem gambling indicators and assistance in accurately documenting patron behaviour. The aim is to provide staff with confidence and skills required to engage directly with patrons who are showing indicators of potential problem gambling behaviour so they may intervene early and refer the patron to a gambling help service or offer other support options if required.
